April Ross

April Ross is one of the few female beach volleyball stars to win medals at more than one Olympics. Alix-Klineman is set to compete alongside April Ross in Tokyo for her third gold medal over the next few days. In addition, Ross is aiming to capture the first Olympic gold. At 39, it could be her final chance to do so. However, she is certain of taking top honors. Ross was reported by NBC Boston as saying that if you play your highest, and even play well we will get the gold. It's also going to be the result of luck. Ross was a Californian born in Costa Mesa in 1982. She lived here along with her parents and younger sister. Ross's athletic endeavors continued at Newport Harbor High School where she was a part of a number of sports. While a prep student she played indoor volleyball along with basketball as well as running track. Though she excelled in indoor volleyball, it was clear that her skills were above average. Her college biography states that she was an outside-hitting hitter, middle blocker and setter in her volleyball playing career in high school. Thanks to her hard work she was named the 1999 Gatorade Circle of Champions National Player of the Year. She also captured the 1999 Orange County Athlete of the Year trophy for volleyball. Ross is playing with Klineman since 2017, but Ross's beach game was established well before this. The American has been a major winner in tournaments twice with different partners. One of them has become an icon of the world of volleyball. Jennifer Kessy was her partner during six years from 2007 to 2013. She also worked with Klineman and herself. Kessy was Ross's partner on the World Championships of 2009. In 2012, the pair took silver in London's Olympics. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings, the legend team who took home the Olympic gold medal in 2012 in London, beat them out to win the gold medal. Ross was Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's resignation. In 2016, the pair were awarded bronze medals at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross was a player for the Trojans of USC in her college years after she graduated in high school. The time she spent at USC was one to remember. In 2000, she was voted Pac-10 Freshman as well as NCAA Freshman of the Year. She was also named an All-American. The team also saw her help in helping the Trojans get to the Final Four. The Trojans suffered a significant personal loss during her sophomore year, yet was successful in achieving the All-American distinction. In her last two years she led the Trojans to the top of the mountain and won consecutive national titles. Ross was an excellent volleyball player, winning the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the top female volleyball player at the college level. Ross had been an international studies major at USC. Margie Ross never saw her daughter achieve the heights of beach volleyball. Ross's mother passed away from breast carcinoma in the year 2001. Ross had just become an undergraduate student in the second year at USC. She has kept her parents close to her the heart. Margie, on the beach and in daily life, inspires her.
